Bill is honored to have provided inspiration for the author of (and be quoted in) the popular Spec Writer Anonymous blog.

Here’s what Bill had to say:
Screenwriter Bill True gave what I think is the perfect analogy when considering how much personal taste casts the die on people’s Hollywood careers. Let’s say your work is truly up there with the best. With a perfect cast and a visionary director, your 120 pages of cinematic poetry are sure to send you up the red carpet into the Kodak Theater next spring.
The problem is, out of the 200,000 specs, a good 1,000 of them are as Oscar-caliber as yours. Or at least shootable. So your script gets optioned by a producer who takes it to a studio. The studio is impressed. Two execs love it. Three others could live with it. Same goes for a hundred other scripts making the rounds. But the studio can only buy a few.
Here’s where Bill’s analogy comes in. Anybody who has gone house buying knows it’s possible to love more than one property but, ultimately, you have to determine which one is the best for you. So Bill asks, “During your hunt, how many houses did you tour?” Typical answer: “Thirty.” Bill asks, “Of those, how many would you have been happy to live in?” Typical answer: “About ten.” Bill asks, “And of those you rejected, how many broke your hearts?” Typical answer: “At least two.”
